This is Coimbatore's one the famous recipe. This will gives you amazing taste without adding any masala powders. This is also called as Kongunad briyani or Coimbatore's briyani. It can be easily prepared. It goes well with papad or potato fry.

INGREDIENTS:
- Rice - 300 grams
- Toor dal - 100 grams
- Roughly chopped onions - 2 nos
- Roughly chopped tomato - 2 nos
- Green Chili - 2 nos
- Unpeeled garlic - 10 cloves
- Red dried chili - 4 nos
- Mustard - 1TSP
- Urad dal - 1 TSP
- Cumin seeds - 1 TSP
- Asafoetida
- Turmeric powder - 1 TSP
- Sambar powder - 1 TBSP (optional)
- Curry leaves - 2 spring
- Ghee - 2TBSP (optional)
- Oil - 3 TBSP
- Salt
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:
- Wash and soak the toor dal and rice for 30 minutes.
- Take a pressure cooker. heat the oil and add mustard, urad dal, cumin seeds, dry red chilies, asafoetida and curry leaves. Let it splutter.
- Now add roughly chopped onions and unpeeled garlic. You can also add peeled garlic but unpeeled one gives good taste. The garlic peel will comes easily after cooking.
- Once the onion color changes as transparent, add green chilies and roughly chopped tomatoes.
- Let is cook for 3 minutes. Then add turmeric powder and required salt. If you want you can add sambar powder. This will also gives you good taste.
- Let it cook for another 3 minutes. Then add water only for the rice(1:2 ratio). If you take 1 cup of rice, add 2 cups of water. Add the soaked rice and toor dal.
- Now cook the rice in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles on a medium flame. If you want you can heat the ghee and add some curry leaves and pour the seasoning in the rice. This will gives you a extra flavor.
